Deriv is a real broker with a long history — but which Deriv company you trade with, and who regulates it, depends on what you trade. Here is what Deriv’s own regulatory page, terms and help centre actually say, in plain words.
Binary Bot is an independent site that builds free tools on Deriv’s official API. If you open a Deriv account through our links, we may earn a commission. Deriv does not own, review or endorse this page. That is exactly why we stick to what Deriv publishes itself, including the parts that are less flattering.
The group dates back to 1999, traded as Binary before the Deriv name, says it serves more than 3 million traders, and holds licences for several of its companies. Three things matter more than the word “legit”: the digit and Rise/Fall contracts most bots trade are offered by a Deriv company with no regulator named; Deriv is the other side of your trades; and regulators in Brazil, Chile, Ukraine and the Philippines have warned that Deriv is not authorised in their countries. Trade only money you can afford to lose.
Deriv is a group of companies, not one company. Each serves different products, and not all of them are licensed. This is the list on Deriv’s regulatory page and in its terms.
| Deriv company | Regulator | What it offers |
|---|---|---|
| Deriv (BVI) Ltd | LicensedBVI Financial Services Commission | CFDs on MT5 |
| Deriv (V) Ltd | LicensedVanuatu Financial Services Commission | CFDs on MT5 |
| Deriv (FX) Ltd | LicensedLabuan FSA, Malaysia | CFDs on financial markets |
| Deriv (Mauritius) Ltd | LicensedFinancial Services Commission, Mauritius | CFDs on MT5 |
| Deriv Investments (Cayman) Ltd | LicensedCayman Islands Monetary Authority | CFDs on MT5 |
| Deriv Capital Contracts & Currencies LLC | LicensedUAE capital-markets regulator | CFDs for clients in the UAE |
| Deriv Capital International Ltd (Samoa) | None namedNo regulator listed by Deriv | Options, digits, accumulators and multipliers on Deriv Trader and Deriv Bot |
| Deriv (SVG) LLC | None namedNo regulator listed by Deriv | CFDs on MT5 and cTrader, crypto, Deriv P2P |
The holding company, Deriv.com Limited, is registered in Guernsey and has been a member of the Financial Commission since June 2020. The Financial Commission is an independent body that handles disputes between traders and brokers, and its compensation fund covers up to €20,000 per client.
EU residents see a different list: Deriv’s EU site names Deriv Investments (Europe) Ltd, licensed by Malta’s MFSA, which offers CFDs and multipliers but not digit contracts. Licences change, so check Deriv’s own regulatory page before you deposit.
This is the question most “is Deriv legit” reviews skip. If you trade digit contracts (Matches/Differs, Even/Odd, Over/Under), Rise/Fall, accumulators or multipliers on Deriv Trader or Deriv Bot, your contract is with Deriv Capital International Ltd in Samoa. Deriv’s terms say so, and its regulatory page names no regulator for that company.
The same applies to every bot on Binary Bot, because they all trade those contracts through Deriv’s API. It does not make Deriv a scam — the group has offered these contracts for a long time — but it does mean there is no government regulator or compensation scheme behind those trades. If something goes wrong, your route is Deriv’s own complaints process: email complaints@deriv.com, and Deriv’s terms promise a final response within 15 business days.
The licensed companies in the table above mainly offer CFDs on MT5, which is a different product with leverage and different risks.
Yes, in a few countries. These warnings say Deriv is not authorised to offer its services there. None of them is a finding of fraud, but each one means local rules do not protect you in that country.
| Country | Regulator | Warning | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brazil | CVM | Stop order: Deriv.com and Binary.com are not authorised to offer securities brokerage in Brazil and must stop offering it | 13 June 2023 |
| Chile | CMF | Lists Deriv (deriv.com) as an unauthorised investment platform | April 2023 |
| Ukraine | NSSMC | Lists Deriv as an unlicensed provider likely serving Ukrainian consumers | March 2024 |
| Philippines | SEC | Advisory: Deriv is not registered or licensed as a crypto-asset service provider | 2026 |
If you live in one of these countries, check your local rules before you open an account. We also checked the warning lists of regulators in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, India and Malaysia and found no warning against Deriv itself as of 16 October 2026 — only warnings about clone sites using Deriv’s name.
Deriv lists 72 payment methods, including cards, mobile money, e-wallets, crypto and its own P2P service. These are the limits and times Deriv publishes for some of the most used ones.
| Method | Limits (USD) | Deposit | Withdrawal |
|---|---|---|---|
| M-Pesa | 5 – 1,000 | Instant | Instant |
| Skrill | 10 – 10,000 | Instant | Instant |
| Deriv P2P | Up to 10,000 a day | Up to 1 hour | Up to 1 hour |
| Visa / Mastercard | 10 – 10,000 | Instant | 1 working day |
| Bitcoin | 20 – 1,000 | Instant | 1 working day |
Deriv says it charges no deposit fees, though your payment provider may charge for withdrawals. The times above are Deriv’s processing times; your bank, mobile-money provider or the blockchain can add more. Deriv also offers regional methods such as MTN, Airtel, PIX and UPI — see our Kenya guide for M-Pesa in practice.
The good and the bad, side by side.

A 5 USD minimum deposit and a demo account with virtual money to practise first.
M-Pesa, mobile money, P2P and crypto, with several methods paying out instantly.
Bots connect through Deriv’s own login or a token you create — no password sharing.
On options and multipliers you cannot lose more than your stake.
Rated 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot from more than 73,000 reviews (October 2026).
The company behind digit contracts, Rise/Fall and Deriv Bot has no regulator named.
Deriv creates its synthetic indices and takes the other side of your trades.
Up to 1:1000 on CFDs, and Deriv’s global terms make negative balance protection optional.
Regulators in Brazil, Chile, Ukraine and the Philippines say Deriv is not authorised there.
Most traders who lose money on Deriv do not lose it to fraud. They lose it to the products. Deriv’s own warning says its products “are complex derivative products that carry a significant risk of potential loss”, and its risk disclosure for options says plainly: “You may lose the entire sum that you have invested.”
Deriv describes its synthetic indices as generated by a cryptographically secure random number generator. Each tick is independent of the last, and every contract’s payout is priced with Deriv’s margin built in. That means no strategy, bot or signal — ours included — can predict the next digit. Tools like our LDP Analyzer help you trade one rule consistently and stop at a limit; they do not remove the house edge.
Set a daily stop loss before your first real trade and do not move it. If you would not be fine losing today’s whole balance, it is too much to trade.
Many “Deriv scam” stories are really clone scams. Malta’s financial regulator has published warnings about websites copying Deriv’s name. Protect yourself with three habits.
Do not log in through links sent on WhatsApp or Telegram. Clone sites copy Deriv’s look exactly.
Real tools send you to Deriv’s own login page. Binary Bot never sees your Deriv password — see how our login works.
Anyone who offers to trade for you, or asks for a fee to unlock a withdrawal, is not Deriv.
